You should bring good hiking boots, weather-appropriate clothes (layers), a daypack, water bottle / hydration, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), possibly a sleeping bag or liner (especially in colder seasons), warm clothes for nights, and possibly gear like headlamp or trekking poles depending on conditions.
The 2-day trek is doable for moderately fit people — you don’t need technical climbing skills, but you should have decent fitness. The first day is a steady climb from base village (e.g. Imlil) up to a refuge; the second day includes early-morning summit attempt and descent. If you are comfortable walking 5–6 h one day and a longer day (summit + descent) the next, you should be fine.
The ideal seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when temperatures are milder and the weather is more stable. In winter there can be snow and cold, which requires extra gear (e.g. crampons) and experience
Yes — many trek providers allow renting of essential gear (boots, crampons, sleeping bags…) for those who don’t own them
In most cases, guides speak English and French — which makes the trek accessible even if you don’t speak Arabic or Berber.
The route does not require technical climbing, so it’s generally safe for fit hikers. Still, altitude, variable weather, and steep terrain demand good preparation: bring appropriate gear, hydrate well, dress in layers, and if possible acclimatize (e.g. spend a day in base village before starting)
